Are you sure it was a Red-headed Woodpecker? or was it just a woodpecker with a red head?

Red-bellied Woodpeckers also have red on their heads and would be far more likely this time of year than a Red-headed Woodpecker. However, it is not unheard of to find a Red-headed Woodpecker this time of year.

Let me know if you're sure it was a Red-headed Woodpecker. if it was, then I'll check with some of my birding friends and get back to you on just how common they are.

Happy Birding! --ChrisChris Whttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17998883745688012052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387933310486010400.post-65469034125421450492008-01-13T23:50:00.000-06:002008-01-13T23:50:00.000-06:00Hi, My name is Natalie. I basically only see pidgeons here, so it was shocking to see a woodpecker. It was beautiful. I was just wondering if it is strange for a woodpecker to be in Northern WI in the winter. I thought they migrated if they lived this high up. If you know it would be greatly appreciated. I'll check back.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
