birds over the last few days and snow today

I found this Barred Owl while on the way to school one day. He posed for his picture just long enough to get this shot.

A snowstorm passed through yesterday dumping about 4-6 inches of snow on us.
This is how it looked this morning:

I went for a walk today to look for any birds that were out hunting after the storm.
Here's how it looked up on the ridge:

I came across a flock of Tree Sparrows. this one posed long enough for a quick shot

Not much else today. 5 Red-tailed Hawks, 1 Grey Ghost (adult male N Harrier), 4 E Bluebirds, and a whole array of winter species. Nothing really unusual though.

Hi!
Thanks for commenting on my blog. Yes you are right, Black-capped Chickadees are excessively nice birds, but so are Long-taileds.
Close call, very close.

Nice blog, by the way! Looking forward to more winter birds from you. I do miss winter birding around Michigan, so your posts will probably bring back some nice memories, now that I am back in Germany.

Cheers, good birding and happy bird blogging,
Jochen

Regarding Shrikes, you may be interested in the following link, although it pertains to a Central Asian species occasionally occuring in Israel. Its size and strength are comparable to Northern Shrikes.
Enjoy...
